About

Hello

I’m Suzanne, and I started this blog as a space to document my journey of falling in love with the outdoors.

Three fortunate life events put me on this path:

  1. I married a nice man whose surname is Hill. That turned out to be handy when I later discovered a love of hillwalking, and paved the way for my Instagram account @wheretheresahill
  2. After 15 years of city-living I moved back up North in 2016 to live in Glossop, on the edge of the Peak District.
  3. I became a mum of two boys. Aside from an annual camping trip with friends, I wasn’t that outdoorsy before having children. But as soon as my eldest arrived I knew I wanted him to grow up surrounded by nature and with a love of the outdoors.

A couple of years on and I’ve learnt to navigate, dipped my toe into wild camping and bivvying, led group hikes, become a regular wild swimmer and now volunteer for two women’s outdoor communities: Adventure Queens and Love Her Wild. And this year, I was selected as an Ordnance Survey GetOutside Champion!

My adventures are never going to be the longest, the fastest, the farthest or the most exciting, but my hope is that their very unremarkable nature is perhaps the very thing that might prompt someone else to incorporate a little more outdoor-time, a little more nature and a little more adventure into their everyday.
